Why Not Me?

“Maybe it’s because I’m such a rule breaker, maybe it’s because I’m so down to earth, or maybe it’s because you spent money on this book and I don’t want you to return it, but I have decided to share my beauty secrets with you. Now you too can go from looking like Gollum in Lord of the Rings to looking like a sexy, authentic Hollywood lady…

The first thing you need to know is that the hair on your head is worthless. The color, the length, the thickness, everything. You will never see anyone on TV sporting their own God-given hair, unless it’s, like, on a sad miniseries about factory workers in East Germany. The same goes for hair color. Yes, your natural color may be appropriate for your skin tone, but this isn’t the land of appropriate – this is Hollywood, baby. Out here, a dark-skinned woman’s traditional hair color is honey blond.” – Mindy Kaling

I loved Mindy’s first book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, so I was so excited to hear that she would be following up with a second book. Kaling’s natural, easy-going personality shines through in her first book, and Why Not Me? follows in a natural step. Her short essays about Hollywood, her unique look, her thoughts on everything from spray tans to making friends, and from dating to her own quirky habits make this book pure entertainment joy! Mindy’s book reads like a hilarious conversation with a good friend! Much like her first book, Why Not Me? is filled with self-deprecating humor and sage advice from a gal who has had to buck conventions and norms in order to be uber successful in a cut-throat business. Mindy manages to turn seemingly mundane topics into goofy commentaries that left me laughing aloud! So glad that I got my Mindy fix!
